Training & Development
Always another challenge…
Merlin Entertainments actively supports personal career development for each and every member of staff through our Merlin Development Path. Your learning and development begins at Thorpe Park as soon as you are recruited.
All employees will attend a two-day company induction. On the first day we'll give you a basic grounding in how to interact with our guests and recover customer service, explain the conditions of your employment and make clear the standards set within the London Eye Complex and across Merlin Entertainments.
Day two concentrates on getting to know about the London Eye and the packages and products on offer. Run by our Marketing and Communications team it will hopefully help ensure that you'll be able to answer most visitor enquiries with confidence. Day three and you'll get specific department / role training that will ensure you know all you need to in order to carry out your duties and continue delighting customers with the rest of your colleagues.
For our new leaders in the company, we offer a six-week programme in how to effectively manage your team and to deliver the company values. The focus is on planning and organising your time to ensure you get the most from each day, while encouraging delegation and teamwork within your department.
For our Senior Leadership Team, we offer a 9-month programme allowing you to understand the qualities of a Merlin leader and to learn techniques on how to develop yourself further. This programme includes modules from Myers Briggs and 360º feedback.
Development isn't just about attending courses; we also offer other solutions such as front-line focus, plus secondments either in different areas within our attractions or across the Merlin Entertainments.
Alongside the Merlin Development Path we commonly offer further education programmes or courses to our employees. These may include:
- CIPD – Certificate in Personal Development
- CIMA – Chartered Institute in Management Accountants
- NEBOSH - National Examination Board in Occupational Safety and Health
- FAW – First Aid at Work
